Ruth Flowers

Ruth Flowers, also known as Mamy Rock is an 72-year old British disc jockey. Her father was a tenor, her brothers and sister where pianist and guitarist so she grew up in a very musical family. She played yesterday, on the Festival of Europa, an exclusive DJ set for Brussel's citizens.

She became famous because she got invited to her grandson Javier's birthday at a club. When she wanted to enter the club, the bouncer wanted to refuse her because of her age but after insisting she succeeded. On that party she said to her grandson that she could as well become a DJ but he thought she was joking, so he didn't believe her. A few days later she confirmed to him that she was really serious about the idea of becoming DJ.
She got introduced to a young French producer, he introduced her to electro, trained her in DJing techniques and helped her to build her image. After a while she began to develop her own style with inspirations from some of her favorite artists (for example: The Black Eyed Peas).
On the fifth of July her first single "Still Rocking" came out.

Some people think that life ends at 60. But the crazy old woman doesn't think so: ' I'd say, don't even give it a thought, eat wel and exercise. Health and fitness are of course a factor in how much we enjoy our lives, taken an interest in new ventures, even take up new studies, music for instance, a great way of taking on a challenge. There is something out there for each one of us, so when you have time in your later years to indulge in a new adventure, go for it!'

I think this woman won't stop making music until she dies. I wonder if she still can spend some time with her grandchilderen, because of her busy program. Ruth has her own site where you can watch some of her videos & photos, listen to her music and buy T-shirts.
